Four Must-Have Items To Create Your Dream Bedroom

Since most people spend one-third of their life sleeping, it's only natural to want to ensure you are getting the best sleep possible. Part of getting a good night's sleep means making sure your bedroom is a peaceful sanctuary. After all, you will spend a lot of time in this room. Here are four ideas to create the ultimate luxurious retreat where you can rest, relax, and restore.

Choose A Soothing Color Scheme

While red walls and black bedding may be unique and dramatic, it isn't a palette that evokes relaxation and tranquility. Choose a color scheme of pale, icy blue, light lavender or pink, or a serene, soft green. If pastel colors aren't your thing, you can also choose a neutral, monochromatic palette of white, gray, or beige.

Buy The Best Bed You Can Afford

Mattresses aren't cheap, and the ones that are aren't usually very comfortable. Ideally, expect to spend at least $1,000 for a quality mattress, and if you can afford more, go for it! There are several different types of mattresses, and everyone is different in what they want from a bed. Some prefer soft pillow-tops while others want a firm mattress. Visit a mattress store and spend time trying different beds and discussing with the sales people what each mattress has to offer. For example, you may think the foam mattresses are extremely comfortable, but they can also be quite warm. If you live in a tropical climate or tend to get really hot when you sleep, this might not be the choice for you, no matter how comfy it is.

Splurge On Linens

You can buy inexpensive polyester sheet sets at your local discount store, but they aren't going to be very comfortable. Egyptian cotton has long been the standard in luxurious sheets. They have a high thread count, which means they will be soft as well as last longer. If you want to feel as though you are staying in a high-class hotel room, buy quality bedding.

Don't Forget The Pillows

Polyester and foam pillows are cheap, but they aren't comfortable. They get hot, the filling gets lumpy and separates, creating voids, they don't last very long, and they're made from chemicals. Do you really want to spend one-third of your life breathing in fumes? Instead, choose luxury king down pillows with natural linen cases. They will feel like your head is resting on air and will provide good support for your neck. A quality, fluffy down pillow will also last 10 years or more, making them well worth the price.
